Run for the hills in 2023!

Hello Cumby fans,

With so many trail racing opportunities happening on Vancouver Island, we are stoked that you are continuing to support the Cumby. Thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm for our race. If you are new to The Cumby, we know you will have a great time enjoying our hospitality and a choice of one of our races. We have 3 races: Quarter Cumby – 7 km, Half Cumby – 15 km and Full Cumby – 25 km!

What is new? We have three new routes. You can count on the Cumby to change the routes every year. This one is the very best! The Cumberland Hills always provide a lot of well…hills, but our route this year is completely runnable.  The start of the race will provide for competitors to spread out before heading up…you know, a hill. We are even taking advantage of the newest UROC climbing trail, all the way to Nikkei Mountain, just like we did for our first race in 2016. The end for all three races will be flat and fast, all the way.

What else is new? We have a new location for Race Central in Cumberland’s Village Park. We are excited for you to check out our new start and finish area amongst the great stand of douglas and grand firs beside the baseball diamond.

What is not new is our commitment to raise funds for the Cumberland Community Forest Society (CCFS) and the work they do on behalf of all of us, saving forest lands and protecting watersheds. With your help, The Cumby provided $34,000 to the CCFS last year to help meet their targets to purchase 44 acres in the Lower Perseverance Corridor. This corridor links the lands of the Cumberland Community Forest Park with protected lands at Comox Lake! The Cumby is pleased to be identified as a Forest Guardian. Total donations over these last eight years in spite of two years of a pandemic = $134,000. Wow.

Our organizing committee is very eager to welcome youth and families to our races and particularly to our 7 km race. We keep the registration fees low for all youth under 19 years for the Quarter Cumby. Please contact the race director if you have ideas about how to increase the numbers of youth in our race. We are committed to supporting the next generation of trail runners and racers.

We can’t wait to see you in person on May 6, 2023!  Registration opens on February 9th at 6 AM. Early bird registration prices are in effect February 9th, 10th, and 11th, just in time to send someone a Valentine’s gift – an entry to the Cumby.
